GSMA FASG #6

20 - 22 September 2016 | Ghent, Belgium

Kenneth Mouton
SIGOS Business Unit Manager - Fraud

Welcome to Ghent!

Dear Delegates,

“Vree wijs de max en al”. That is how it feels to welcome you here to GSMA FASG
#6 Meeting. It is Ghent dialect meaning “really great”. Ghent has a really particular dialect – in being very different to other Dutch dialects and only spoken within the city and not in its suburbs. Another unique feature of Ghent is that it hosts SIGOS’ Fraud Fighting division. In fact it was founded here 13 years ago. In the meantime many things have changed in the telecommunications industry. What remains the same is that fraudsters always try to find a way to take “their share” on the back of righteous people and businesses.

At SIGOS, we are committed to fighting fraudulent activities. To successfully combat fraud means thinking ahead, anticipating what might come next. It means being creative in order to outsmart any new fraud method. And it means being fast and agile enough to outrun fraudsters. To achieve all of that we need to share knowledge and best practices. Let us bloom our creative thinking together here in “Bloemenstad”,  the “city of flowers”. Let me finish by thanking our sponsors to support that collaboration here at the GSMA FASG
#6 Meeting: thank you very much sponsors!

About Ghent

Ghent is centrally located in Europe, at the highway crossroads between Amsterdam,

Paris, London and the Ruhr Area  and hides away in the middle of Belgium's big
three - Brussels, Bruges and Antwerp.

History

The history of Ghent begins in the year 630, when St. Amandus chose the site of the
confluence (or 'Ganda') of the two rivers, the Lys and the Scheldt, to construct an
abbey. Nearly 1400 years of history are still palpable in the city today: a medieval
castle surrounded by a moat, an imposing cathedral, a belfry, three beguinages...

Nowhere else does one find so much history per square metre than in the historical
heart of Ghent!
